Of a broken hand lol

Mon Jun 15, 2009, 6:41 AM
Hi,

Well, it has been an interesting week for me. By interesting I mean painful and little work done lol You see, Saturday of last week, I went to volunteer with my dad at a state park. The volunteer work was hosted by his company and, at least as it had been told to him and his coworkers, we were all volunteering to help spruce up the park. There were no other details given...that should have been our first warning sign :)

When they said spruce up, we all thought that meant we were going to clean up some trails and so on. You know, pick up litter, brush leaves from trails, all that sort of stuff. Boy were we wrong. My father and I, along with two other volunteers ended up hauling two hundred and three hundred pound logs at least half a mile down a trail. By down a trail I mean to say through sinking rocks that would, if you weren't careful, let your leg slip between them and plunge you up to your knee in rocks and mud. Fun! Also up steep hills littered with holes and down steep hills that had rocks waiting at the bottom....long story short it was just so much fun! (please note that was said with sarcasm) lol

Towards the end of our volunteer shift, when everyone was exhausted and ready to fall over, it was decided by one of the rangers to move a rather large boulder. It took five men, including myself, to lift it, struggling and grunting the whole way. We only managed to get it about half a foot off the ground. That should give you some idea of the weight. During the move, one person let the boulder slip and, just like dominoes, everyone else let it go. Just one problem, they all let it drop onto my hand, smashing it between itself and, conveniently, another rock. Best part of it all, nobody noticed until I called for help.

In the end that little accident fractured three of the fingers on my left hand. Not just the fingers though, that also included the knuckles.

So, that is the reason why I haven't been updating so much. I haven't been able to sculpt or paint. To sum up, it was an awesome volunteer day. lol

I'm getting back to work now, in a way. Somebody just lent me a table mounted brace. It can hold the figures in place for me. I'll be finishing up the chess board this week and the new Samus and Ichigo figures. I'll also be making Stark from Bleach. The primera espada with his awesome release.

Thanks for reading,

Oh, wow. Hope you feel better soon. What's the healing time for that like?

Thanks. I had to have the splint on for seven days, not using the hand at all. I have the splint off now and I have to start flexing the fingers as much as possible to ensure they don't solidify straight. I'm looking at another week basically.

Ouch. Yeah, I'm making sure I don't over use it or hit it at all. I really want to get back to work :)

Yeah, I know, every time I bend the fingers it hurts like heck. I have the table clamp now though so I can at least paint some things and due some simple molding :)

Oh, so it wasn't your good hand that got the rock-hug? Way to make it even more rudimentary x3.
